Valve stem seals leaking oil – easy swap?
Slight oil smoke on startup after sitting overnight on my 2005 Civic 1.8. Compression fine, no blue on accel. Valve stem seals likely? Can you replace without full head removal?

Yes, worn stem seals cause that startup puff of blue smoke (oil drains down stems overnight), but no consumption during driving. You can replace them without pulling the head- use compressed air to hold valves up, remove springs with compressor tool, swap seals. Tricky but doable in situ. I did mine that way- saved big labor. Got Viton rubber stem seals from https://elartcom.eu/categories/cylinder-head-parts-123 - they have seal sets for Honda engines, good quality with proper umbrella/deflector style. Seals fit snug, smoke gone after, no oil fouling plugs. Keep valve keepers organized. If doing a few, their category has affordable packs- perfect for preventive maintenance without major teardown.
